Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa hinted that the final stages of this year’s Champions League could take place on Portuguese soil.
The statement came after Portugal entered as the strongest candidate to stage a round of 8 matches considering the number of Covid-19 transmissions was not so much.
So far the last 16 of the Champions League has not been completely completed. Therefore, UEFA and the European Club Association (ECA) are preparing Plan B to hold the next match (top eight) and so on in one country.
This is done to prevent transmission of the coronavirus. Portugal is predicted to be an ideal place to hold the celebration.
‘I feel that we can still have good news in terms of international football in Portugal in August,’ Rebelo de Sousa was quoted as saying by Marca on Wednesday (06/03/2020).
